Slipping Away

September 9, 2011

Gut feelings are often wrong, for the sake of our Red Sox and the Indianapolis Colts, I hope mine are, as one season seems to be on the brink of slipping away, while the other may be “over” before it even begins. Chances are, the Sox are just in a September slump, but, for the Colts and Peyton, the outlook grows more grim by the minute.

This is Getting Exciting

September 1, 2011

There has been a lot of talk lately about the rivalry between the Red Sox and Yankees and how recently it has not had the same intensity or excitement because the two teams have not met in the playoffs since 2004. Well, I beg to differ.

It’s Not Easy Being a Giants Fan

August 13, 2011

The Giants have had possibly the worse off season of any NFL team. We lost Smith and Boss, we didn’t get Plaxico back, our first round draft pick broke his foot in the first week of practice, and our veteran wide receivers are now Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham. If the Eagles are the Yankees or the Red Sox then the Giants are the Tampa Bay Rays, not quite the Orioles yet, but there’s time. They obviously didn’t listen to me when I said to make as few changes as possible, but with our first preseason game tonight in Carolina, we will get our first glimpse of our boys in action, the ones who are left anyway. Hopefully someone or lots of someones will step up or stand out.

200 Delayed

August 4, 2011

This is the 20th edition of A Fan Divided, and I was hoping it would coincide with Wakefield’s 200th win, but alas, you can’t script sports or life. If you could, you may miss out on some amazing things like walk-off home runs hit by your lead off man to deep center field in the bottom of the 9th with two outs. I think even Wake would agree, sometimes it’s worth the wait.

Football is Back

July 29, 2011

I sing and fix baseball’s instant replay problem. You don’t want to miss this!

Melee Rant

July 18, 2011

The Red Sox and Orioles go at again tonight and by that I mean they are participating in the age old and respected athletic competition of baseball that hopefully will not devolve into a bar room brawl. For more on this, I give you some footage from last week that didn’t quite make the cut.  These are by no means lesser comments or opinions, but I’m on vacation, plus I hate to waste a good rant.

Giants Among Men

July 16, 2011

Adrian Gonzalez, David Ortiz, Derek Jeter,  Kerry Collins and Christian Lopez–what do they have in common?  Well, they have each made their mark on sports history and, more importantly, they are each mentioned in this post.

Time for a Break, Time for a Change

July 8, 2011

Inter-league play is over, yet we’re still talking about it, probably because until tonight, the Red Sox were still in an inter-league funk.  But the offense seems to be back–back to back to back–home runs that is for Papi, Reddick and Salty.  Given how their all playing tonight, maybe the Red Sox would rather play right through the All Star Break and keep the momentum going.   Hopefully at the very least, we will finish the first half of the season strong, so we can enjoy our break and be ready to hit the ground running in the second half.

The One That Got Away

June 24, 2011

I took a break from watching tennis 24/7 to bring this to you, unfortunately I missed the Roddick match this morning–Spoiler Alert!– now I have to pick someone else to root for, but he took it well, he played his best, the other guys just played better.   Taking a loss in stride, moving on–how appropriate for today’s post, in which I actually defend the Patriots, sort of, don’t miss it.

A Hockey Fan is Born?

June 17, 2011

If you had told me, when I started this blog, that I was going to talk this much about hockey, I wouldn’t have believed you. I may not turn into a hockey fan overnight, I may not even watch next season, unless the Bruins or maybe the Kings are on the verge of something this incredible again, but I have certainly enjoyed the last few weeks and can only imagine how good I would feel if I were a diehard Bruins fan my whole life. In Boston, where championships are sometimes separated by decades it can be hard to be a fan, well yesterday it just got a little easier.  Here’s to the fans!
